The Phantom Voice
the phantom voice
It’s been about two months of Trump and I feel my mind slowly weakening after the constant news alerts on my phone warning me about our newly found oppression. Sadly, I don’t at all find it surprising that Trump has done all of the things he’s done because, well, I knew he wouldn’t do anything beneficial for anyone but himself and his followers. But, to be honest, I’m glad that Trump keeps up to date with shouting out baseless claims, and unleashing late-night tirades on celebrities and politicians, because it shows the world his pent up insanity. Additionally, since Trump’s only sources of news are FOX and Breitbart News (because he deemed every other news network an “enemy to the American people” and “fake news”), it makes sense that Trump would never really know what was happening in our country. Perhaps Trump has overfilled his administration with too many incompetent yes-men that consistently flood Trump with misinformation and lies.
So what is it that Trump did now? A short series of tweets was sent out by Trump on Saturday, March 4, 2017, in which Trump claimed Obama wiretapped Trump Tower before the 2016 election. He also said “how low has President Obama gone to tapp my phones during the very sacred election process. This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad (or sick) guy!” So many things wrong in these short sentences, but nevertheless, Trump made a baseless claim about something he doesn’t understand and called Obama a sick man. Apparently, this tweet was written by Trump and not a four-year old kid, which I feel is hard to believe, but either way he tweeted this out in anger and was disproved by several of his own followers and many Democrats.
Former deputy national security advisor, Ben Rhodes, immediately sent a response to Trump, that said, "no President can order a wiretap. Those restrictions were put in place to protect citizens from people like you”. Perfect response to horrible Trump.
There were also many Republicans that completely disagreed with Trump, including the famous turtle- I mean Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell. He denied that he has seen any evidence of wiretapping at all. FBI Director, James Comey (who made a new case about Hillary Clinton’s email scandal right before the election) also asked DOJ officials to officially knock down allegations against Obama. So, even though I don’t like these people, I can completely agree with them on this.
Anyway, it is obvious that Trump isn’t aware of how much effort it takes for a President to wiretap someone. US law says that no President has the ability to eavesdrop on anybody without a warrant authorized by a special surveillance court. This shows Trump has a shockingly terrible misunderstanding of law and is not right for his position because he doesn’t understand simple parts of how the government really works. If he’s in a position of power, he should know this. When Trump is disproven, this will be a scandal that will follow him until the end of his reprehensible term.
