The Phantom Voice

If you don’t know who Elon Musk is, he is a South African born Canadian-American business man with a lot of interesting and progressive views on the future regarding sustainable energy, transportation, AI, and even space travel/interplanetary colonization. He is Most famously known for co-founding and holding the position of CEO of Tesla Motors. And in 2002 founded Space Exploration Technologies Corporation, or SpaceX. He also is a majority shareholder with SolarCity which has been combined with Tesla Motors Inc. As of 2017 Musk’s net worth is $20.2 billion, with Tesla Motors worth about 48 Billion dollars, and SpaceX at about 20 Billion dollars. He also has a non-profit organization the Musk Foundation which is focused on space exploration and researching sustainable energy sources.
Musk has quite a few extreme but entirely possible predictions or educated guesses, on what might happen in the future regarding AI, Mars, Power, and even his company Tesla Motors Inc. It’s started with an announcement about SpaceX developing a reusable rockets to take off and land safely. This next one is a bit of a stretch but according to Musk, with more advanced Artificial Intelligence “the risk of something dangerous happening (as a result of A.I.) is in the 5 year timeframe, 10 at most”. Not a huge threat right now, but it is pretty frightening. A bold prediction about his company, he stated that by 2025, Tesla Motors Inc. will beat out Apple’s $700 billion market cap. He also confidently believes in the same year the first man will step on Mars. He hopes to launch in 2024 and land by 2025. Back in 2013 Musk made a claim that “within the next 20 years” solar energy will become our main source of power. And added that if we do not make it our primary source “we’ll be in big trouble”. By 2037, all transportation will be autonomous and we will no longer have steering wheels! Another really “out there” estimation, by 2040 we will have colonized Mars with a city consisting thousands upon thousands of residents. He also thinks that A.I. will surpass humans in every way possible. However I believe they will never learn to love. And another claim that can’t happen unless we get to mars, by 2060 he believes there will be a million people living on colonized Mars.
He’s already been right about one of the events so far. In 2015, he said we will successfully launch reusable rockets into space in 2018. And we did! His company SpaceX launched two Falcon Heavy rockets, one containing his own Tesla Roadster as a dummy payload. The Falcon Heavy rocket is designed to take people to the Moon or even Mars. The A.I. stuff… at the moment we have it under control but it only takes one to go rogue and learn everything. We can definitely achieve the Mars related predictions in the foreseeable future, he promised by 2021-2031. Maybe not a massive one million population city though. Baby steps. As for the others? Time will tell...
