The Halloween Issue
Christian Finkbeiner Halloween, a holiday for trick-or-treating, or a a holiday for pranks and gags. With Halloween coming, everyone's getting there costumes and toilet paper ready: it's only natural to get excited. You may be aware that some mischievous children on Halloween like to trick rather than treat. Egging houses has been a tradition for years among teens, but how severe are the consequences. Though harmless pranks enjoyable, some have some can be serious repercussions. Egging houses in specific is considered vandalism in New York State. You can be charged up to 25,000$, varying from state to state. It's very uncommon to be charged that kind of money, which is usually associated with more serious crimes like gang marking or graffiti. The white of the egg is a very efficient dissolver within the area of house and car paint. The dried egg white after sitting in the sun, or on someone car can be very time consuming, and tedious. Egging is also very common during protests for various reasons, but mostly because of accessibility. The hard white or brown shell an egg has makes for a good impact. The damages an egg shell could do to your, or a targets head, are a little unforeseen. Eye injury is common with the shattering egg shell. Various diseases spread throughout eggs as well. The very famous Salmonella, the excuse for “Don't eat the cookie dough.”, E.coli, meningitis, and conjunctivitis, otherwise known as pink eye, are very contagious. The egg whites irritates the eye, and can be prolonged based on the time the egg whites or yolk are in your eye before properly getting cleaned out. Head injury is rather common with a direct hit most likely leaving you with a concussion. The night before Halloween, commonly known as mischief night, is the night were various children and teens commit small acts of vandalism as a prank. In Detroit this was taken to a whole new level with serious crime. Detroit was hit the hardest in the late 1900s. It grew to a point where arson was common. Arson is the intentional act of setting someone's house or other property on fire. This led to the city creating something called Angels Night. Angels night is where citizens volunteer to patrol the streets for anybody vandalizing, In the late 1980s 40,000 citizens volunteered to try to stop vandals. I am completely against egging houses or others. You should know the consequences of the task you’re performing. One bad throw, and an egg goes through a house or car window, you run the risk of a seriously injuring someone, ending up in court, and possibly facing a large fine.

AJ Knipfing Over the summer the 2018 NBA Draft occured. Some people say that that was one of the most talented drafts. But there are already people looking into the 2019 NBA prospects. Here I will show you my top 5 picks my for the 2019 NBA Draft . Atlanta Hawks: R.J Barrett After the addition of Trae Young, Kevin Huerter and Omari Spellman in the first round of the 2018 NBA Draft the Atlanta Hawks should already be considering adding RJ Barrett. RJ Barrett is the most favorited to go number 1 in the draft from winning MVP of the U19 World Cup and a national championship with Montverde. At Nikes Hoop Summit he lead the World Team over The United States infront of tons of NBA evaluators. Barret stands at 6´7 and weighs in at 202 lbs. Phoenix Suns: Zion Williamson Without any high level point guards to choose from the Sun's should excited to see a Deandre Ayton and a Zion Williamson pair. Zion is listed at 6’7 285 pounds Williamson is one of the most unique athletes to enter the draft because of his strength and his leaping ability. But Zion can also handle the ball and he has the ability to pass the ball. He still does most of his damage around the basket using his overwhelming strength athleticism and a quick second jump. The key will be for Williamson to show his jumper can eventually become an every-night threat and that he's able to defend in space around the perimeter. Boston Celtics: Nassir Little The Boston Celtics have another 1st round pick this time they acquired the Sacramento Kings (protected at No.1) which the Philadelphia 76ers had until they traded it to move up and grab Markelle Fultz in 2017. If Boston keeps the pick, they won't be worrying about position or having too many wings. Nassir Little has been trending upward, particularly after his standout showings at the McDonald's All-American Game and Jordan Brand Classic, where he combined for 52 points. Nassir Little Stands at 6´7 and weights in at 215 lbs. Chicago Bulls: Cam Reddish At 6’8 and 218 lbs Cam Reddish will frustrate others with poor shot selection. He handles the ball and creates offense and though he has the tendency to resort to hero ball he's also a high-level shot-maker capable of taking over for stretches. New York Knicks: Romeo Langford Next year will be another key draft for the Knicks as they will have to capitalize on another top 10 pick. After adding Kevin Knox and Mitchell Robinson to join Kristaps Porzingis and Frank Ntilikina the Knicks my want to take a look at Romeo Langford he stands at 6′ 6 and is 215 lbs who is a smooth athlete and effortless scorer. Langford can come off as overly casual, and he'll want to demonstrate both playmaking and consistent three-point shooting to maximize his stock. He'll have a big role and plenty of freedom to fully showcase his exciting offensive arsenal. Kara Downing is a sophomore at BBP High School. She enjoys cheerleading at Long Island cheer and hanging out with friends and family.
Daphne Fitz If you are in for a scaring, check out these top 5 most haunted places on Long Island! This area is originally the ancestral home of native Americans and later settled by Europeans during the 1600s. Long Island is rich in history and loaded with folklore, myths and urban legends. It is the stage for countless triumphs and tragedies throughout the centuries. One of the several haunted places on this island is Mount Misery & Sweet Hollow Road, Melville/Huntington, a paranormal hotspot in the deep woods. One legend has it there was a hospital there that burnt down sometime during the 1700s or 1800s—with some patients and staff still trapped inside—only to be rebuilt on the same site to tragically burn down again. Another speaks of a deranged nurse who set the blaze and roams the woods with or without a number of faceless children. Some claim to have seen burning spirits fleeing from the grounds, accompanied by screams. Then there’s the legend of the mass suicide—in which several teenagers hung themselves beneath the Northern State Parkway overpass. A Suffolk County homicide detective tells the Press the mutilated body of a child was discovered on Sweet Hollow Road in 1976. The next spot is Lake Ronkonkoma, LI’s largest freshwater lake. There are various versions of stories about the lake’s infamous Indian princess. One tale speaks of a Native American maiden sacrificed in its waters to appease a god. Another tells of the Lady of the Lake, a Native American princess betrothed and in love with a member of her tribe who was murdered by a settler on the eve of their wedding—so she tied rocks to her ankles and committed suicide in the middle of the lake. Her body was never found, the legend goes, though allegedly, she returns annually to bring another male to his watery death in revenge for her love’s slaying. At least one male drowns in Lake Ronkonkoma each year, the legend goes—recanted in various forms through a litany of books, including Haunted New York: Ghosts and Strange on Phenomena of the Empire State by Cheri Revai and Heather Adel Wiggins. The Normandie Inn. Smithtown & Lakeland Ave., Bohemia, is a top spot for some spooky action. Originally built as a residence for a Czech baron in the 1920s, according to a 2008 Long Island Business News article, it became a speakeasy during Prohibition and the Hotel Chateau La Boheme before its last incarnation as a restaurant. The now-closed Normandie Inn is rumored to be haunted by a woman named Maria, who was allegedly strangled to death in the upstairs back bedroom and heard walking the hallways and knocking on visitors’ doors when it was a hotel. There have also been reports of cold spots and other apparitions. Its most recent owner told LIBN the place’s previous owner informed him that long-silent room service bells once began ringing without explanation and footprints once appeared on a just-shampooed rug in a locked bedroom. This spooky restaurant has a terribly haunted vibe. Katie’s on West Main Street in Smithtown, is an old bar that has been open for many years. Stroll by and say hi to bartender Charlie Klein who is about 115 years old, give or take a few years. He may be missing a limb or two and he might knock a few glasses off the shelves. For years, staff and patrons at this local bar, which has been featured on A&E’s Paranormal State, have reported strange occurrences, from swinging doors to apparitions. The property has a long history. A hotel burned down in 1909 on this spot, reportedly killing a victim in the basement. Other tales claim a 16th century murderer haunts its corridors. But the most sociable ghost is Charlie, believed to be a bootlegger and bartender during the 1920s Prohibition era who lived across the street from Katie’s and took his own life. This last eerie location will give you a spine chilling reaction. The Fire Island Lighthouse, believe it or not, is an ominous venue that families and friends gather to visit almost everyday in the summer, including myself! The original lighthouse, standing 74 feet high, was constructed of stone in 1826 and served as a beacon to distressed whaling and merchant ships for about 30 years. It was replaced by the current lighthouse, built in 1858, which is rumored to be haunted by a curator who committed suicide prior to its resurrection. Also, some believe the Fire Island Lighthouse, which has helped the navigation of countless boats and ships for more than 150 years, to also be a beacon for wayward spirits. In conclusion, there are more uncanny places in our own little Island then we thought. Next time you’re out and feel a mysterious hunch, don’t be surprised to find out that you might be in the presence of several ghosts and spirits, even in our favorite spots! Parker Schug
On Saturday, September 29, William’s Worriors hosted the second annual “Chalk the Walk” fundraiser and celebration. William’s Worriors is an organization dedicated to the celebration and memorial of William Shultz’s life as well as the fight against childhood cancer. Unfortunately,William was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, a cancerous brain tumor, at a young age. He fought hard, and achieved remission, but than relapsed two months later. At seven years old, William passed away having touched the lives of many people. Each year, William’s Worriors organize a “Chalk the Walk” event in which community members, family members, and friends of William’s can come draw on the pathway at the Blue Point Nature Preserve. Boxes to draw in sold for $25, and proceeds went to childhood brain cancer research and art therapy for pediatric cancer patients. Additionally, “chalkers” could purchase t-shirts, raffle tickets, 50/50 tickets, as well as lunch from one of the three food trucks. Children could also get their faces painted, and decorate rocks for the pathway. At the end of this fun-filled day, participants voted on their favorite box, and prises were given to elementary schoolers, middle schoolers, high schoolers, and adults for the best boxes. Volunteers circulated the pathway, checked “chalkers” in and sold raffles and t-shirts. People from all over Long Island came to enjoy this beautiful day, and to celebrate the life of William Shultz. Ian Waldron For the past couple of years, Call of Duty has had failure after failure. With games like Advanced Warfare, Infinite Warfare, and even Black Ops 3 to a certain degree, the franchise has been losing to the more popular Battlefield franchise and even Fortnite Battle Royale. But did Treyarch set the record straight with their newest addition Black Ops 4? Let’s find out! Multiplayer The COD multiplayer has returned, and it’s bigger than ever. Suffice to say, it wouldn’t be a Call of Duty game without the modes Team Deathmatch, Kill Confirmed, or Domination. Thankfully, all three of these classic modes are back. Below are all the “Core” Black Ops 4 Multiplayer modes: Control Domination Free for All Hardpoint Heist Kill Confirmed Search and Destroy Team Deathmatch Also included are five “Hardcore” Multiplayer modes. These are as follows: Domination Free for All Kill Confirmed Search and Destroy Team Deathmatch Some changes have been made to a few of the Multiplayer modes. Kill Confirmed and Team Deathmatch are now 6v6 as default. There’s more, too. Anybody can be any Specialist they want to be in both modes. It’s not limited to just the one person as it has been in the past. While it may not seem like there are many modes, there is plenty to get on with here, including new modes. Control, for example, is new to the Call of Duty party. To get players in the groove with new modes, Treyarch has included a Featured tab for everything new, including alterations on existing modes such as Chaos Team Deathmatch. As COD WW2 did, perhaps more multiplayer modes will be added at a later date in Black Ops 4, too. Battle Royale Yes, Call of Duty has jumped on the Battle Royale train to take the throne currently held by Fortnite. But they didn’t just make a carbon copy of Fortnite like so many others. Their battle royale mode (called Blackout) is completely original, with new weapons, mechanics, and the largest CoD map to date. There are many different locations to land at such as Fracking Tower and Cargo Docks. But some locations, such as Asylum, Lighthouse, and even a couple of unnamed locations such as Diner, are based on Zombie maps from past games. Asylum is Verrückt, Diner is Tranzit, and Lighthouse is Call of the Dead. These locations will sometimes have a crate which looks like the Mystery Box from Zombies but be warned. Wherever the Box is, zombies aren’t too far behind. When you enter the location, the original starting theme from the first Zombies map will play, and literal zombies will crawl out of the ground and try to kill you. If you do defeat the horde, however, you get the crate, which contains the most powerful weapons, armor, and meds. The objective is to be the last man standing out of 87 others. After playing Blackout I found that it is actually very hard to win and you have to be always looking behind you. You don’t have that much health and a stray sniper shot to the head will send you back to the lobby screaming at the tv. Treyarch, the developers of the Black Ops series, has done a fantastic job with their Battle Royale that is, in my opinion, better than Fortnite. Zombies Jason Blundell, the lead developer for Zombies, has once again perfectly created another storyline for the Zombies franchise. He and the Zombies team left behind their old storyline, called the Aether storyline, and gone for a fresh start, named the Chaos storyline. In this timeline, it follows a group of four people, Scarlett, Diego, Stanton, and Bruno, brought together to stop the zombie apocalypse, which all leads back to one artifact that, when activated, turns everyone (but the people in the immediate radius) to zombies. The team tries to stop this group of golden-masked cultists hell-bent on turning the population of the Earth into mindless zombies. There are three maps on release, IX, Blood of the Dead, and Voyage of Despair. If you got the Black Ops Pass, you also get the zombies map Classified, along with 12 multiplayer maps and many more features. The maps IX and Voyage of Despair are part of the new Chaos storyline while BoTD is part of the Aether storyline and Classified is part of the original Ultimus storyline. After playing Zombies for myself, I found that it is a lot more hectic because of the lack of space to move, and the lack of power in the weapons. It is definitely more challenging because of these facts, but it is a lot more fun. Once you get to round 20+ on IX, mini-bosses start appearing everywhere, including Gladiators, Beserkers, and the menacing Blightfather. The Blightfather is a giant, 4 legged abomination that has spores growing on it’s back (which is its weak spot). If you kill it, however, you get a max ammo powerup (one of the most important powerups for the later rounds). This is by far my favorite edition in Zombies so far (and perhaps the scariest). This devastating death of a young six year old lively child should haven't happened. She was sexually abused, beaten and strangled to death.
