The girls varsity field hockey team is full of many talented players. This years season was very tough but they still have a chance at making it to playoffs. Although they lost one of their best games all season was against Miller Place (ranked #1). The girls played an outstanding game keeping it 0-0 the whole game, even in over time. Unfortunately the girls lost in 1v1’s but they kept their heads up and continued with their season. They have no more home games but they have a game Monday (10/16/17) at Babylon and a game Wednesday (10/18/17) at East Hampton. If the girls can win both their games they have a shot at making it to playoffs on Saturday (10/21/17). The team is very young with only four seniors. The seniors this year are Emma Keyser (12), Ashley Smith (1), Kayla Ahern (18) and Erica Triano (27). These girls are very dedicated and hardworking, they are role models and great leaders for the rest of the team. All the girls are very devoted to the team and want to go as far as possible. The season was a great experience for the girls and hope to end the season strong.
This 2017 season, the Varsity Field Hockey team has put a lot of work into their playing technique. This is the team’s first season on the brand new turf field and they have been doing new drills and improving on their stick skills. With turf comes a faster moving game, harder hits, and more running. The team played a fabulous game against the undefeated Miller Place, losing only 0-1 after two rounds of OT. The girls have been led by Coach Gick, also known as Coach Iovino. With so many new players to the team, because of the large amount of graduates from the previous season, the girls haven't failed to bond immediately. With pre-game pasta parties and having fun at practice together, they’re all working hard for the same goal, playoffs. The girls await their game Wednesday at East Hampton, the results of that game will determine whether the team will go to playoffs this year.
Note; I’m not 100% certain what our record is, but I know it's probably not very impressive even though we play really well...
