The Phantom Voice
the phantom Voice

As my fourth and final year playing on the Bayport Blue Point Lacrosse team, I felt it was essential that I write about how amazing my experience with the program has been. For starters, the team. Every single one of the other guys on the team have been nothing but encouraging and supportive through thick and thin. I met some of my closest friends from lacrosse, people I never would have became close with otherwise.
I can say without any trace of doubt that my coaches Mehan and Luce have been some of the most supportive and encouraging coaches I have had in my entire life. Not to mention their unwavering commitment to the game. They are the type of guys to come to practice with an intensely thought-out game plan as to what needs to be worked on every single day, all the while constantly keeping practices highly enjoyable for every player, and then go home and spend the night studying what other teams are doing in order to put our team in an even better situation for success. A combination of excellent coaching style and their unwavering commitment to the game make them amazing at what they do. Even guys like me who aren’t starters can usually get some involvement in a game, and can always count on being involved in practices.
The fact that Mehan and Luce are so willing to work with guys who might not be the best players is awesome. They could have very well never have played me once in a game last year, but they gave me a chance. They worked with me and let me get the work I needed to get better, and today I can confidently say because of that experience I have improved tremendously as a player. I feel like they find a good balance between rewarding talent and commitment. They are always there to encourage you whenever you do something great in a game or practice, and see that you are working hard, but they still will always make great use of what talent they have by making sure the best players still play the most, creating the best team attitudes I have seen in my entire life.
Overall, I am immensely fortunate to have been on this team, and I cannot thank my coaches and fellow teammates that made it all possible.
